NextDecade has awarded two construction contracts worth about $12 billion to Bechtel for the construction of phase one of its Rio Grande LNG export terminal at the Port of Brownsville. Pending regulatory approval and a final investment decision, Bechtel would build three production units capable of producing up to 17.61m tpa of LNG.
The project represents another win for the company on the LNG front — in March, the company was issued a final notice to proceed on Phase 1 of public utility company Sempra’s $13 billion Port Arthur, Texas LNG plant.
NextDecade reached the final investment decision (FID) for Phase 1 of the Rio Grande LNG export facility in July 2023 and officially started its construction in October 2023.
